A clear record of what the site collects

Privacy Policy

The Visual Life List is a photography archive and field journal. This notice explains the limited information collected when you visit the site or send a licensing inquiry.

Information you choose to provide

When you use the licensing inquiry form, you provide your name, email address, intended use, and project details. You may also choose to provide an organization name and identify a species, photograph, or page.

The inquiry is sent privately to Brittany Templin by email so she can respond. The custom form does not save the submission in the website database. A copy may remain in the receiving email account and the systems used to deliver that email.

Technical information

Like most websites, the hosting, content-delivery, and security systems may process technical information when a page is requested. This can include an IP address, browser and device information, referring page, requested URL, and the date and time of the request. This information is used to deliver the site, maintain reliability, prevent abuse, and investigate security problems.

Cookies and measurement

The public-facing site does not currently use advertising cookies, targeted advertising, or a third-party analytics service. WordPress and the hosting platform may use essential technologies for administration, security, caching, and reliable operation. Logged-in site administrators may receive WordPress login and preference cookies.

If analytics, a newsletter, ecommerce, advertising, or another service is added later, this notice will be updated before that new use begins.

How information is used

  • To respond to licensing inquiries and discuss requested photography use.
  • To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website.
  • To maintain appropriate business records or comply with legal obligations when necessary.

Sharing and selling information

Personal information is not sold or rented, and it is not used for targeted advertising. Information may be processed by service providers that support website hosting, security, content delivery, and email delivery, only as needed to provide those services. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect the site, its creator, or others.

Retention and your choices

Licensing correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably useful for responding to the request, maintaining related business records, resolving disputes, or meeting legal obligations. Technical logs are retained according to the operational and security practices of the relevant service provider.

You may ask about, correct, or request deletion of personal information you submitted through the licensing form. Some information may need to be retained when required for security, legal, tax, or recordkeeping purposes.

Children and external links

The site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly request personal information from them. The site may link to independent websites or services whose privacy practices are governed by their own notices.

Changes to this notice

This notice may be revised when the website adds features or its information practices change. The date at the top of the page shows the most recent revision.
